32-Bit Plugin Bridging

If you still have essential 32-bit plugins: jBridge (Windows) and 32 Lives (macOS, discontinued but still works on Intel Macs) wrap 32-bit plugins so they appear as 64-bit. Performance cost is minimal for most plugins. On Apple Silicon Macs, 32-bit bridging is essentially dead — Rosetta 2 doesn't support 32-bit code. You need to find modern replacements for 32-bit plugins on Apple Silicon.

Rosetta 2: The Transition Layer

Apple Silicon Macs run Intel plugins through Rosetta 2 translation. Performance is surprisingly good — most plugins run at 80-95% of native speed under Rosetta. But: Rosetta adds latency, can cause compatibility issues with complex copy-protection schemes (iLok generally works, eLicenser is hit-or-miss), and is not a permanent solution. Format Wrappers and Bridges

The Sunset Plan for Legacy Plugins

Identify plugins that rely on deprecated technology (32-bit, PowerPC code, RTAS/TDM, eLicenser). For each one: find a modern equivalent, render/freeze all tracks using that plugin in existing projects, archive the old plugin installer and license, and set a personal deadline for removing the legacy plugin from your active system. The sooner you migrate, the less painful it will be when the compatibility layer you're relying on disappears.
